Shea Butter – The Bliss Today

Do we ever buy any beauty or skin product because it has a particular ingredient which is trending these days? Do we actually know the ingredients, the pros/cons?

Well, Shea Butter is a trending ingredient these days, and I am going to shed some light on how we can effectively use it.

Shea Butter, in its natural, unrefined state, with its slightly smoky smell and silky feel on the skin, is extracted from the seeds of a tree (karite tree) native to Africa. Since ancient times people have harvested the nuts of the shea tree, crushed them, and worked them into the substance we know today as Shea Butter. The benefits Shea Butter offers seem infinite, but I will pull few of them, in addition to sharing how I put Shea Butter to daily use.

In today’s market, we get refined & unrefined Shea Butter. Unrefined Shea Butter is the purest form of Shea Butter, which is the most natural and the least processed. The whole process is done manually, from extracting the Shea Butter to crushing the nuts to getting it all packaged. Refined Shea Butter on the other hand, includes processing like filtration, deodorization, coloring, etc. and may use chemicals and other substances.

Shea Butter is full of Vitamin A & E. Vitamins A and E maintain the skin and keep it clear and healthy. It also helps to slow the aging process (yay!). I call Shea Butter my skin food. It literally is. Well it has other miraculous benefits too. Want to know?? Here you go…

  • Treats acne & blemishes
  • Acts as a sunscreen
  • Reduces skin inflammation
  • Reduces stretch marks
  • Prevents hair loss
  • Treats split ends
  • Soothes muscle aches
  • Lowers cholesterol- Oh yes, unrefined Shea Butter can be used for cooking too.
  • Heals wounds
  • Soothes insect bites

If you are looking for one ingredient for your skin (and maybe your hair too), then you can confidently choose Shea Butter.

Some of my favourite ways to use Shea Butter,

  • As a face and body moisturizer
  • As an after-sun lotion
  • As a cuticle cream
  • As a hair mask (I apply Shea Butter 2hrs before I shower & then rinse it with the shampoo)
  • As lip-balm
  • As eye lash conditioner (I brush it with the mascara brush and then apply on my eye lashes)
  • As a moisturizer right after shaving (reduces irritation & bumps)

Now it’s time for me to share a DIY I love, a hair mask using Shea Butter!

What you need:

  1. 1 spoon Shea Butter
  2. 4 spoons coconut oil

Melt it together and apply to the scalp & hair. Keep it for 2-3hrs and rinse it with shampoo. Trust me… you will see the difference immediately.

I had a wonderful experience sharing my views about Shea Butter. And I wish Baraka Shea Butter all the very best for the wonderful work they are doing for women empowerment.
